Why give?

First and foremost, we believe giving to the local church is a Christian discipline encouraged of us in God's Word. 2 Corinthians tells us that each of us in encouraged to give out of our own heart and to give cheerfully. When we do this, God is able to meet all of our personal needs as well as the needs of the ministries of His church. Giving is an expression of obedience and love to God; not a method of earning God's favor or the approval of peers. If you are seeking to give to FBCG we have several options available for you: below you can read a little information on what your generosity is making possible!

How can i give?

How much should i give?

2 Corinthians 9:7 tells us, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." This teaches us that when we are generous because we are thankful, our attitude will be a reflection of how our heart and our worship are. It is not what or how much we have that counts with God, but our willingness to give it, whether it be time, talents, or resources.  Proverbs 11:24-25 also teaches that our generosity will be rewarded, "The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself."

As mentioned above God’s word tells us to give what each of us feels in our hearts to give. However, the Bible makes a distinction between giving and something called tithing. In Malachi 3:7-12, God commands his people to tithe, or to give 10% of what they earn to the Lord. God’s language is so clear in this text that He states that when we as His followers do not tithe, we are “robbing God” (Malachi 3:8). If you are a follower of Christ, you are expected by God to tithe and anything you give on top of this is the giving that is referred to in 2 Corinthians. God challenges us to test Him on this, to tithe obediently and cheerfully, and see if He will not pour out His blessing on you. If you are considering how much to give, we would encourage you to reflect on whether or not you are being obedient to what God has called you to in His word.

Where does my money go?

FBCG's purpose is to fulfill the great commission given to us by Jesus Christ (Matt. 28:18-20). All money given goes toward fulfilling this purpose! When you give, you're helping fund ministry and missions in our community, in Texas, in North America, and around the world.

The first 10% of everything we receive goes to support the Cooperative Program, which funds church planting and revitalization in Texas, new churches in North America, global missionaries overseas, disaster relief, and training of pastors and ministers at the six Southern Baptist seminaries. Every time you give, you have a part in what God is doing around the world.

We work diligently to steward the faithful gifts of God's people. Our budget supports missions and evangelism, discipleship ministries, facilities, and staff salaries.
