Why give?

First and foremost, we believe giving to the local church is a Christian discipline encouraged of us in God's Word. 2 Corinthians tells us that each of us in encouraged to give out of our own heart and to give cheerfully. When we do this, God is able to meet all of our personal needs as well as the needs of the ministries of His church. Giving is an expression of obedience and love to God; not a method of earning God's favor or the approval of peers. If you are seeking to give to FBCG we have several options available for you: below you can read a little information on what your generosity is making possible!

Where does my money go?

FBCG is a non-profit ministry oriented organization thats purpose is to fulfill the great commission given to us by Jesus Christ (Matt. 28). All money given goes toward fulfilling this purpose! Our outreach and evangelism ministries, or our missions, includes supporting missionaries at home and abroad, sending members on mission trips, and supporting the Co-Operative program.

All our discipleship ministries, ranging from camps to Sunday school classrooms, receive 15% of the total budget. 20% goes toward keeping the lights on, the four walls standing, and campus improvements. All the staff that coordinates, prepares, and leads these ministry endeavors receive collectively 50% of the total budget.

If you feel called to support a specific area of our ministry, we have two distinct areas to which you may give our missions fund and our buildings fund. Each of these operate apart from the budget and are used mainly for extraordinary expenses in missions or on the building respectively. Although we as the staff would appreciate your generosity, there is no personnel fund, and would much rather you consider giving to support other areas of the church and her ministry

How much should i give?

2 Corinthians 9:7 tells us, "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." This verse teaches that when we are generous because we are thankful, our attitude will be a reflection of how our heart and our worship are. It is not what or how much we have that counts with God, but our willingness to give it. Whether it be time, talents, or resources.  Proverbs 11:24-25 also teach that our generosity will be rewarded, "The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself."

As mentioned above God’s word tells us to give what each of us feels in our hearts to give. However it must be stated that the bible makes a distinction between giving and something called tithing. In Malachi 3:7-12 God commands his people to tithe, or to give 10% of what they earn to the Lord. God’s language is so clear in this text that He states that when we as His followers do not tithe we are “robbing God” Malachi 3:8. If you are a follower of Christ, you are expected by God to tithe and anything you give on top of this is the giving that is referred to in 2 Corinthians. God challenges us to test Him on this, to tithe obediently and cheerfully, and see if He will not pour out His blessing on you. If you are considering how much to give we would encourage you to reflect on whether or not you are being obedient to what God has called you to in His word.
